Having trouble getting Wake on LAN (WoL) to operate with your AsRock (or probably any manufacturer) motherboard that has an integrated Realtek (and also probably other manufacturers) NIC onboard?
Try disabling both the Energy Efficient Ethernet and Green Ethernet options in the Advanced tab of the device in Device Manager (
devmgmt.msc). When these options are enabled, it seems they prevent the NIC from listening for traffic when the PC is off. Disabling them, boom, WoL returns!
Remember, you’ll still need to:
- Ensure “Shutdown Wake-on-Lan” in the NIC Advanced tab (the same location as the above two settings) is set to Enabled
- Ensure “Wake on magic packet” and “Wake on pattern match” are enabled in the same place as above.
- Ensure the “Wake from ring” or equivalent is enabled in your BIOS
- Ensure that the Power Management tab of the NIC has Allow this device to wake the computer ticked
